Farmers to Families

October 29, 2020 by devteam

Area families received more than 112,000 pounds of fresh food thanks to Gwinnett Rotarians

Thanks to funding from the Rotary Clubs of Gwinnett County, dozens of Gwinnett nonprofits, food pantries and religious organizations were given the opportunity to pick up more than 112,000 lbs. of food and distribute an estimated 92,000 meals to Gwinnett families in need during the month of October.

The Rotary service clubs partnered with the US Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families program and Rotary District 6910 to provide families with boxes full of fresh fruits, vegetables, protein and dairy products. “Families across our Gwinnett County communities are experiencing tremendous food insecurity,” said Rotarian Ryan Jones, vice president at Regions Bank. “Adults and children are struggling to live, to work and to learn because they’re hungry.

It’s our responsibility to help them. These Farmers to Families deliveries provide such a practical way of multiplying our impact for the good!”

The distributions were facilitated in collaboration with Satisfeed food pantry located on the grounds of Life Church International in Duluth. Satisfeed’s Operations Director, Greg Robinson shared, “It’s heartbreaking to see the tremendous need around us, yet just as rewarding to see the volunteers who’ve rallied together to make a difference.”
